Dr. Aziz has been a science professor for the past 18 years. After undergraduate training in Molecular Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, he went on to study medicine, earning his M.D. in 1998 and then training in the fields of both Psychiatry (SUNY Brooklyn) and Internal Medicine (University of Oklahoma, Tulsa.) Dr. Aziz has been a Professor of Physiology and Neurology for over 16 years, and also serves as a speaker for Fork over Knives, the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM,) the Arthritis Foundation, the Hippocrates Health Institute, and the Society for Neuroscience. He was recently appointed as Research Director for the Arise Spiritual Retreat and Wellness Center in Detroit Michigan.
Dr. Aziz’s lifelong passion for research led him to Washington D.C. and the National Institutes of Health, where he was awarded a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship studying Natural Killer Cell function in the Laboratory of Experimental Immunology. He went on to conduct groundbreaking research in the USA and worldwide connecting stress with decreased immune cell function, with implications to cancer and other chronic diseases. As our Education Director, Dr. Aziz coordinates a lecture series with a comprehensive wellness focus, and he also regularly contributes with his own talks on the science of stress and inflammation.
